A review of Brookfield by Sharon Dawber written on Wednesday 18th of June 2025
I was referred to Brookfields after being in hospital in Wigan for a month.
And after being in Atherleigh Park Psychiatric Hospital for 2 months.
I hadn't heard of a reablement hostel but i couldn't & didn't want to stay at Atherleigh Park.
I also couldn't go back home to my bungalow because it was very very damp.
And the water supply was very badly contaminated.
I absolutely hated being in hospital in Wigan & Leigh
It made me much worse.
I had a very small flat & i went shopping with support at first.
Then as my confidence came back i went out alone.
I liked the fact that i could watch TV & chat with other residents then go back to my flat when I was Overwhelmed or tired.
I did my shopping, cooking & cleaning on my own which i wanted to do.
All the staff are absolutely brilliant & always went above & beyond for us.
I had 2 fantastic Support Workers
who were always there for me.
If I ever needed a chat they would sometimes chat in the office or the kitchen.
I always knew i could ring them anytime for help advice and support.
I have numerous Mental Health illnesses & it's extremely difficult trying to cope daily.
Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff they are very professional.
Very efficient, really trust worthy & a wonderful emotional support network.
I know that not everyone's journey is the same but having a safe space & amazing staff made ot much easier.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me on my road to recovery..
